If you’re afraid of things that lurk in the dark, beyond the feeble reach of your bedside light, drop this book and run, for there are things you simply don’t need to see or hear. This tale, dear reader, begins in the autumn of 1986, where the hour is screaming ever closer to All Hallows' Eve.
Mikey and his two best friends, Bobby and Dominic, enjoy the same old things as most of their classmates, arcade games, movies and toys. But, most of all, they're fascinated by anything and everything to do with space. For months now, the three best friends have been obsessing over a mysterious object orbiting Earth, the Black Knight Satellite, which NASA claims is a stray piece of heat shielding discarded during an early Apollo moon mission. However, when Bobby uncovers evidence to the contrary, the boys conjure a plan to probe the true nature of the orbiting UFO. As is always the way, when boys disturb things that should be left well alone, they encounter far more than they bargained for. As a series of increasingly bizarre and disturbing events begin to unfold, they must face the awful truth, that they've unleashed a terrifying alien entity that could threaten the very fabric of existence... |

SPECIAL THANKS TO IGN
A few years back, Logan’s life was upended when he was diagnosed with a chronic illness, which sees him spending many of his days laid up. Whilst he holds out for the illness to subside, as it shouldn’t last forever, so he’s told, he spends his time crafting novels full of adventure and wonder, inspired by the stories he loved as a child. His foray into writing is partly down to a lifelong passion for story, but also to help him retain his sanity. He often jokes that despite the illness sucking the big one, lying in a darkened room is the perfect environment for stories to evolve, like a young Earth where the conditions for life are just right. It’s his very own Goldilocks zone, so in a sense a wonderful thing. Still, it would be nice if the illness would take a hike sometime soon.
Since his physical interactions with the outside world are limited these days, he gets about through the internet. It was on one such journey a few years back that he discovered IGN, a place where a group of energetic, fun-loving, salt-of-the-earth guys and gals discuss games, movies, books and TV shows. These friendly characters beam out topical shows and fun-spirited entertainment every week, which is greatly appreciated. It almost feels like hanging out with friends.
Whilst in the early stages of writing The Paranauts, late in 2016, an episode of IGN's UP AT NOON, hosted by the hilarious duo Max Scoville and Brian Altano, ran a segment called 10 Things We Want To See In Stranger Things Season 2. One of Max's suggestions was an arcade sequence. Since Logan was developing an arcade sequence for The Paranauts, he decided to name the arcade Scoville’s, as a sort of tribute and thanks. This got him thinking, why not include a whole bunch of IGNers. And so, each new supporting character added to the tale was named after one of the fantastic talents at IGN. He hopes he’s done them justice in this Spielbergian ode to the magic of childhood friendships.
